Ten songs of Rishi Kapoor that you shouldn’t give a miss

Hum tum ek kamre mein band ho

Film: Bobby (1973)
Music: Laxmikant Pyarelal
Singers: Lata Mangeshkar and Shailender Singh

Hormones are bound to rage when two teens, deeply attracted towards each other, find themselves alone in the house. The song captured the teen spirit superbly. The underlying sexuality of the song gets to you even after all those years.

O hansini

Film: Zahreela Insaan (1974)
Music: RD Burman
Singer: Kishore Kumar

The film was based on Vishnuvardhan starrer hit Kannada movie Naagarahaavu. The movie may have been forgotten but this romantic number, shot on Rishi Kapoor and Moushumi Chatterjee remains one of the most romantic songs ever of Rishi Kapoor. It was reportedly shot at Chitradurga Fort in Karnataka.

Tumko mere dil ne

Film: Rafoo Chakkar (1975)
Music:   Kalyanji Anandji
Singers: Shailender Singh, Kanchan

That’s the film which brought out the drag act in our films with panache. It had many melodious songs but this, which is laced with a tinge of agony, stands out. Shot on Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor in verdant locales, it has retained its freshness over time.

Ek main aur ek tu

Film: Khel Khel Mein (1975)
Music: RD Burman
Singers: Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle

A good plot, good performances and great music – this murder mystery romance had all the ingredients designed to give you an edge of the seat experience. The song involves young collegians Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh meeting in alone in the forest and giving way to their passion. It contains a certain innocence despite the raging chemistry.

Khullam khulla pyar karenge hum dono

Film:
 Khel Khel Mein (1975)
Music: RD Burman
Singers: Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle

Couples making out in the open while drunk! Khel Khel Mein was really way ahead of its time. It’s one of the most drunken declarations of love and one of the funniest too.

Bachna ae haseeno

Film: Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977)
Music: RD Burman
Singer: Kishore Kumar

It created a sensation when it first came along and remains so popular that it became the title of Rishi Kapoor’s son Ranbir Kapoor’s film in 2007. Rishi Kapoor’s entry while playing a trumpet remains memorable.

Dard-e-dil

Film: Karz (1980)
Music: Laxmikant Pyarelal
Singer: Mohammed Rafi

Rishi Kapoor played an entertainer in the film and you see him playing different instruments in the song, which is about a man enamoured by a girl’s eyes and spouting poetry. Some great camerawork too helped highlight the point.

Hoga tumse pyara kaun

Film: Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1982)
Music: RD Burman
Singer: Shailender Singh

Shot atop a moving train much before Chaiyyan chaiyyan came along, this song never fails to amaze you with its energy. While Rishi Kapoor and Padmini Kapoor are in their elements as much in love couple, one has to salute RD Burman’s ingenuity in creating a train-like sound for the song.

Kahin na jaa

Film: Bade Dil Wala (1983)
Music: RD Burman
Singers: Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar

Rishi Kapoor, a fugitive from law, is reassured by the woman he has come to love that she’d be at his side always. This meaningful song about being there for your loved one never fails to refresh your mood every time you listen to it.

Chehra hai ya chaand khila hai

Film: Saagar (1985)
Music: RD Burman
Singer: Kishore Kumar
